Statistics collected by the United States Census Bureau (2003) reflect the increasing pattern of computer use in schools. In 1993, 59% of children in elementary and secondary schools were using computers in the school setting. 4%. 5%. 1%. In 2008 schools in the United States claim 100% access to computers in the school setting (Evans, 2007). The availability and quantity of computers in the school setting has increased and the issue has now become the quality and integration of computers as part of children’s educational experiences.

Case study is a type of qualitative research design in which the researcher provides an in-depth exploration of an activity, event, or process based on extensive data collection (Creswell, 2002). Merriam (1998) views the use of case study design in qualitative research as being employed “to gain an indepth understanding of the situation and meaning for those involved” (p. 19). For the current research considering interactions between parents and children in the home setting, a case study design augmented the quality of data collected during site visits.
