The densest aggregate gradation provides the greatest durability by minimizing air voids, but sufficient room will not be available for traffic compaction, and the asphalt cement may flow to accumulate at the surface of the mix, a phenomenon known as ‘bleeding’. 5. The “Fuller’s Curve” is only an approximation of maximum density, since actual gradation required for maximum density depends partly on the nature of the materials.
